NEW PALTZ, N.Y.—The College at Brockport baseball team struggled as they battled against SUNY New Paltz on Saturday in a double-header. The Golden Eagles dropped the first game 11-1, before stumbling in the second game, 11-2. Brockport now holds a 10-11 overall record and a 5-5 State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) mark. The Hawks move to 9-9 on the year, while their conference record now stands at 2-3.
Game 1: Loss 11-1
The Green and Gold fell behind in the first inning after an opposition homerun. The deficit grew to six after the fifth inning, as Brockport pitching struggled to limit hits. The team got on the board in the bottom of the fifth after
Nik Malachowski rocketed the team's first homerun of the season to left field and brought the score to 6-1.
Malachowski finished 2-for-4 on the day driving in the team's only run.
Casey Piazza was a bright spot for the pitching staff as he threw a perfect 2.1 innings and struck out one.
Mark Giallanzo recorded the loss after tossing 4.1 innings and gave up six runs.
Game 2: Loss 11-2
The Golden Eagles took another hard hit in the beginning of the second game allowing a two-run homerun to put them behind 2-0 in the second inning. The Green and Gold displayed power in the matchup with both
Tom Kretzler and
Avery Brooks hitting homeruns. Kretzler sent his out of the park in the fourth inning cutting the deficit to 5-1. The Brooks longshot came in the sixth inning and brought the score to 6-2.
Sam McCumiskey recorded the loss after pitching 5.0 innings, while striking out six batters.
Brockport will play the third game of the series on Sunday April 8 against the Hawks, with a first pitch time slated at 12 p.m.
