Field Hockey locks up No. 2 seed for SUNYAC tournament with victory over Oswego

Oswego, NY. The SUNY Oneonta field hockey team bested Oswego 5-1 today to lock up the No.2 seed for the SUNYAC tournament, which begins on Wednesday, Nov. 1 with semifinal games. Oneonta will host third-seeded New Paltz.

The win for the Red Dragons improved them to 5-1 in the conference and 13-3 overall. The Lakers fell to 5-8 overall and 2-4 in the SUNYAC. Junior Carissa Warren (Harpursville/Harpursville) led all scorers with two goals.

The Red Dragons came out early scoring its first goal within nine minutes of the game. Warren netted her first goal of the game when she beat an Oswego defender one on one. The next two goals of the game also came off of Oneonta sticks, as Alise Anson (Stone Ridge/Rondout Valley) scored off an assist by Sierra Palmatier (Nineveh/Afton Central) before Allyson Wells (Niskayuna/Niskayuna) scored unassisted to give the Red Dragons a three goal lead.

The first Oswego goal came early in the second half, when Katie Reynolds scored in the 41st minute.  The Red Dragons locked its defense down after this not allowing another goal in the game.

With the Red Dragons leading 3-1, they tacked on two more goals to build the lead to four goal, 5-1.  The first of the two goals was scored by Allyson Bilow (Webster/Webster Thomas) and assisted by Palmatier. The final goal of the game was Warren's second goal, and she was assisted by Wells.

On the defensive side, Allyson Bilow (Webster/Webster Thomas) had a defensive save and Danell Jones (Whitney Point/Whitney Point) had three saves. Jones improved to 12-3 overall.

The Red Dragons are back in action this Wenesday at nationally ranked Rochester beginning at 5:00pm.
