OSWEGO, N.Y. - The Oswego State women's soccer team fell to Plattsburgh 2-0 on Friday afternoon at Laker Soccer Field.  With the loss, Oswego moves to 4-3-1 overall and 1-2-0 in conference while Plattsburgh improves to 5-3-1 and 1-0-1 in SUNYAC play.

Plattsburgh opened the scoring at the 6:12 mark on a goal from senior Sarah Haight.  She was assisted by fellow senior Madeline Saccoccio who sent a nice through-ball to her teammate to free her up on the left side of the box.

Oswego had a great opportunity to counter at the 12:30 mark when Gab Garcea got fouled at the top of the box.  Audrey Burbridge narrowly missed the shot high to leave the score at 1-0.

The Cardinals added their second goal of the half at 41:21 when Saccoccio gained possession on the left side of the box and drilled a shot just over the head of the Oswego goalkeeper.  She was assisted by sophomore Katie Matott.

Oswego spent a good portion of the first half on Plattsburgh's side of the field while earning five corners and getting off four shots.  Plattsburgh was effective with their counter attack while putting up six shots of their own.

The Lakers got the first scoring opportunity of the second half when Burbidge sent a corner into the box in the opening minutes.  Oswego had their initial shot blocked before senior Emma Geyer put a rocket on goal that forced Cardinal junior Nichole Gibson to make the save.

The Lakers had two great opportunities midway through the second half.  At the 65-minute mark, Geyer would work the ball down low and send in a pass to freshman MacKenzie Schaffner for a shot on-goal.  Oswego would get its seventh corner of the afternoon at the 73:45 mark. Burbidge swung a corner through the box for a good header attempt by junior Chloe Lonergan.  Each time, however, Gibson was able to stymie the Laker offense.

The Cardinals attempted 15 shots while the Lakers managed 13.  Oswego held the advantage in corners 8-3.

On Saturday, the Lakers will look to get back into the win column when they host the Potsdam Bears at 1 p.m.
