After pulling out a 2-1 win in eight innings in game 1 today, the SUNY Oneonta softball team made short work in game 2 to sweep New Paltz on the road. The Red Dragons won the second game 12-2 in five innings to run its current win streak to seven games.

The two squads each scored a run in the first inning and then battled each other for six more innings with nothing being settled. A one-out triple by junior
Lauren Sabatino (Bayville/Locust Valley) turned into the game-winner when sophomore
Brooke Corbett (Bethlehem/Bethlehem Central) hit a two-out single to center field to drive in pinch runner
Kaycee Simpson (Blossvale/Camden Central).

Alyssa Bluethgen (Commack/Commack) threw all eight innings for Oneonta (16-10, 8-4 SUNYAC) striking out seven to earn her ninth win of the season including her fourth straight.

Sabatino collected three hits in the game while driving in Oneonta's run in the first inning. Corbett finished the game with a pair of hits.

Game 2 recap
The Oneonta bats were on in game 2 of the twin bill collecting 14 hits. The Red Dragons posted three runs in the second and third innings, added a single run in the fourth before scoring its final five runs in the fifth inning. Sophomore
Julia Calabro (Wantagh/St. John the Baptist) threw five innings of four-hit ball striking out one batter.

Bailey Schwark (Port Ewen/Kingston) had the big bat with a 3-for-3 performance that included a pair of doubles and four runs batted in. Senior
Cori McFall (Pleasant Valley/Arlington), junior
Selena Ruiz (Westbury/W.T. Clarke) and freshmen
Caroline Koch (New City/Clarkstown South) and
Kristen Collins (Hicksville/Holy Trinity) each collected two hits. Koch scored three runs in the game.

Schwark cleared the bases in the second inning with her first double giving Oneonta a 3-0 lead. Freshman
Amanda Sexton (Port Jervis/Port Jervis), Koch and Schwark each drove in a run in the third inning, as the Red Dragons increased its lead to 6-0.

Leading 7-2 entering the fifth inning, Oneonta made New Paltz (13-16, 6-6 SUNYAC) pay for a couple of miscues in the field that led to all five runs being unearned.

Oneonta will journey to Brockport to play its twice rescheduled doubleheader against the Golden Eagles on Tuesday beginning at 2pm.
