Huge First Half Lifts Brockport Past Buffalo State

Brockport, NY – The College at Brockport men's basketball team defeated Buffalo State at home on Tuesday, 100-81. Brockport led from start to finish, as the team advances to 9-3 overall and 4-1 in SUNYAC Play.
 
The Green and Gold had five double-digit scorers in the contest, as Devante Hagins was the team's high scorer with 15 on 7-for-9 shooting. Tyler Collins posted a double-double with 11 points and career-high 10 assists.
 
Antonio Alvarez went a perfect 3-for-3 from beyond the arc on his way to a season-high 13 points. Justin Summers and Monte Stroman each scored 11 points, while Stroman set a new career-high with five steals.
 
Brockport opened the contest with a 27-9 run over the course of the first nine minutes of the contest.  Devante Hagins was the catalyst for the Golden Eagles as he posted 13 points in the stretch, including two early dunks to push the momentum in favor of Brockport. 

The Golden Eagles did not let down as they added another 32-17 run in a stretch of 9:58 to earn a commanding 59-29 lead at halftime.  Antonio Alvarez led the Golden Eagles in the stretch with 11 points off the bench. 

Hagins made 6-of-7 shots in the first half, while Alvarez went 4-for-5 from the floor and 3-for-3 from behind the arc. Tyler Collins and Montgomery Stroman each added eight first half points for the home team. As a team, Brockport assisted on 17 of its 21 made field goals in the opening half of play.
 
Early on in the second half, Brockport took its largest lead of the game of 34 points. The team's bench outscored the Bengals, 47-15, as plenty of reserve players received extra playing time in the blowout win. The Golden Eagles would break the century mark for the first time all season late in the second half, as they cruised to a victory.
 
The Green and Gold remain an undefeated 5-0 on its home court, following the 19-point triumph over Buffalo State. The team scored 59 points in the first half, the highest output in a single half this year.
 
Buffalo State is now 3-5 overall and 1-3 in conference play after the loss. Kay Grant scored a game-high 22 points, while teammate Jordan Christopher had a double-double with 18 points and a game-high 11 boards.

Brockport returns home on Friday and Saturday for SUNYAC action when the Golden Eagles take on Oneonta (7:30 p.m.) and New Paltz (4 p.m.) in consecutive days. Tuesday night began a stretch of three straight home conference games for Brockport.
