Softball Drops Road Doubleheader at Plattsburgh

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The College at Brockport softball team dropped their State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) opening doubleheader to Plattsburgh State on Friday afternoon. The Golden Eagles fall to 8-8 (0-2) on the season with the losses, while Plattsburgh improves to 8-8 (2-0).

Game 1: Loss, 5-4
The first 4 ½ innings of this game favored the Golden Eagles, as they jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning, using an RBI double from Karleigh Eaton to drive in Jessica Koneski who had led off the inning with a walk.

They extended that lead in the top of the fifth when they put runners on the corners for Alison Missavage who crushed a two-RBI double, scoring Eaton and Koneski. She was then driven in two batters later when Aren Schwab sent a fly ball to left that was deep enough to drive in Missavage on the sacrifice fly, putting the Golden Eagles up 4-0.

Julia Palopoli was lights out through the first four innings of play, retiring 12 of the first 14 batters she faced. The Cardinals offense finally got going in the bottom of the fifth, scoring five runs on five hits to take the lead. That ended up being the only runs they'd score, as Amanda Colon came on to pitch the last 1.1 innings for the Green and Gold without allowing a hit.

Brockport nearly came back in both the sixth and seventh innings, putting the leadoff runner on base in both. Despite some scoring chances however, the Plattsburgh pitching stood tall and the Cardinals were able to hang on for the 5-4 win.

Meghan Cullen and Eaton each finished the day with two hits, while Eaton (1), Schwab (1), and Missavage (2) all recorded RBI's. Brockport collected eight hits as a team, while drawing seven walks, but left 12 runners on base in the game.

Game 2: Loss, 6-0
For the first time this season, Brockport was unable to get the bats going, managing just one hit in the game which came off the bat of Eaton. They did, however, display some patience at the plate, working three more walks to bring their day total to double-digits.

Plattsburgh was able to continue their momentum from the opening game, scoring runs in four of the first five innings to get to their six run total. Becky Knorr took the loss in the game, pitching the full six inning, and giving up six runs despite fanning a pair of Cardinal hitters.

The Golden Eagles will have a chance to get back to their winning ways on Wednesday when they travel to Rochester, N.Y. to taking on Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) for a doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m.
