Redhawks Fall In First Road Contest To Buffalo State

BUFFALO, N.Y. – La Roche women's basketball took to the road for the first time in the 2023-24 season and met with Buffalo State, but fell to the Bengals 63-46.

The first quarter was all Buffalo State, holding the Redhawks to just seven points to take a 17-7 lead into the second.

La Roche finally got the offense going in the second quarter, outscoring the Bengals 24-13 and take a halftime lead of 31-30.

In the quarter, the Redhawks still trailed 23-15 at the 8:12 mark, but countered with a huge 12-0 run to take a 27-23 lead.

Out of the break, it was all Bengals unfortunately for La Roche, clamping the Redhawks defensively, outscoring them 19-8 in the third quarter and 14-7 in the fourth quarter to close out the win.

For the game, La Roche shot 24.2% (15-for-62) from the floor and 7-for-26 (26.9%) from deep. From the charity stripe, the Redhawks went 9-for-10 (90%).

On the other side, Buffalo State went on to shoot 45.8% (22-for-48) from the field, 5-for-14 (35.7%) from three and 14-for-16 (87.5%).

Leading La Roche offensively was Jazmine Dunn who put together a line of 13 points, nine rebounds, three assists and four steals.

Machia Hairston followed with nine points and six boards, Alexis Robison scored eight points, Breanna Clemons, off the bench scored seven points to go with six rebounds and Makayla Abram finished with six points and 10 rebounds.

La Roche now prepares for a weekend back-to-back, beginning on Friday, Nov. 17 when they travel to Wilmington, Ohio for the Fred Raizk Memorial Tournament hosted by Wilmington.

The Redhawks first opponent is Mt. St. Joseph and opening tip is set for 5 p.m.
