Box Score FREDONIA, N.Y.- Despite out-shooting Fredonia State 39-9, Plattsburgh State ended up in a double overtime scoreless draw Saturday evening at University Stadium.
Plattsburgh State is now 10-3-2 overall and 5-0-2 in the SUNYAC while Fredonia moved to 6-9-1 and 2-4-1.
The Cardinals came out firing in the first half looking to lead the game from the start.
Sarah Bonner (Yorktown Heights, N.Y. / Yorktown) had a scoring opportunity in the first minute when her header hit the cross bar.
Bonner had another header two minutes later that went high followed by a blocked shot and then a shot by
Cait Gagen (East Syracuse, N.Y. / East Syracuse-Minoa) that was blocked.
Madeline Saccocio (Schenectady, N.Y. / Schalmont) had a shot on goal in the eighth minute directly followed by another shot from Gagen that was saved and
Vina Nguyen (Shelburne, Vt. / Champlain Valley Union) had a shot that went wide.
Sarah Haight (East Meredith, N.Y. / Charlotte Valley) had back-to-back shots that were wide and blocked.
Saccocio had another shot in the 32
nd minute that was saved and
Allie Boudreau (Bennington, Vt. / Mount Anthony Union) had a shot on net in the 40
th minute.
The game remained 0-0 after the first half despite multiple opportunities to score.
The second half was a mirror image of the first with multiple scoring opportunities for the Cardinals.
Ernesta McIntosh (Lincoln, Vt. / Mt. Abraham) had two blocked shots and two that went wide all within five minutes.
The Cardinals out-shot the Blue Devils 16-4 in the second half but the game remained tied 0-0.
The Cardinals owned the first overtime not allowing any shots by the Blue Devils and having seven shots of their own, three of which were on goal.
Each team had a few opportunities in the second overtime to score.
Rachael Moran (Hopewell Junction, N.Y. / Arlington) had a shot on goal in the 101
st minute while Fredonia had a header that was saved by
Nichole Gibson (Arkport, N.Y. / Arkport) in the 104
th minute.
Neither team was able to beat the goalies and the score remained 0-0 as the buzzer rang out to end the game.
Haight, Gagen and McIntosh all recorded seven shots, Gagen had four on goal. Saccocio had four shots, three on goal.
Gibson logged three saves in her 110 minutes in goal.
The Cardinals are home on Friday to host SUNYAC foe The College at Brockport at 3 p.m.
