CORTLAND, N.Y. - Cortland senior left-hander Christian Dufresne (Cocoa, FL/Space Coast) stole the show on Senior Day by throwing the 19th no-hitter in program history and the first since 2011 as the nationally 10th-ranked Red Dragons defeated Elmira, 8-1, in the first game on a non-league doubleheader.

Cortland (23-6) completed the sweep of the Soaring Eagles and won its 15th straight game with a 17-0 victory in the second contest.

Dufresne tossed Cortland's first no-hitter since Travis Ratliff turned the trick at Plattsburgh seven years ago. It was the Red Dragons' first no-hitter at Wallace Field since Adam Brown versus Cazenovia in 2010, and only the third nine-inning no-hitter by a Red Dragon (Matt Tone at Oswego in 2008; Bob Reggio vs. Mansfield in 1964).

Cortland will host Canton for a non-league doubleheader on Sunday beginning at 12 p.m.

Cortland 8, Elmira 1

Dufresne retired the first 12 Soaring Eagles in order before an infield double-error eliminated the possibility of a perfect game and gave Elmira a leadoff base runner in the fifth. Dufresne retired the next three hitters in succession to retain the no-hitter. He faced more trouble in the sixth and surrendered the only Elmira run of the game with help from a throwing error, catcher's interference, and a wild pitch. Dufresne (3-2) allowed four runners to reach base all game, three by way of error (catcher's interference statistically error on catcher), and he allowed one walk.

The Red Dragons turned in three stellar defensive plays to preserve the no-hitter. First baseman Patrick Schetter (Beacon) made a backhanded stop and a throw to Dufresne covering first for a close out on a ball hit by Joey Florio to lead off the third. In the fifth, after Tommy Fogarty reached on the double-error, Bryce Plante hit a sinking liner to left that Colin BeVard (Syracuse/West Genesee) made a shoestring catch on. In the sixth with runners on first and second and one out, Conor Bawiec tried to bunt for a hit down the third-base line, but Matt Michalski (Buffalo/St. Francis) made a barehanded grab and throw to get the out.

After a wild pitch allowed Elmira to score in the sixth, Dufresne recorded his seventh pickoff of the season to end the inning. Dufresne retired the final nine hitters in a row, four by way of strikeout, to complete the no-hitter. He finished with 10 strikeouts over 30 batters faced and 118 pitches. Dufresne's no-hitter is the fourth in Cortland history in which the opponent has scored.

Justin Teague (North Syracuse/Cicero-North Syracuse), Dan Schweitzer (Poughquag/Arlington), and Matthew Personius (Binghamton/Chenango Valley) each went 3-for-5 for the Red Dragons in a 15-hit attack. Teague had two RBI and scored twice. He hit a solo home run in the eighth, his second of the season, to expand the Cortland lead to seven.  Personius finished with an RBI and a run scored and Schweitzer added a pair of runs. Garrett Heaton (East Patchogue/Bellport) registered his third straight multi-hit game as he went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run.

Bawiec took the loss for Elmira. He pitched five innings and allowed five runs, four earned, on 12 hits, a walk, and two strikeouts.

Jack Massa (Shoreham/Shoreham-Wading River) led the Red Dragons offensively as he smacked two home runs and finished 2-for-4 with four RBI and two runs. His first homer was a solo shot as part of Cortland's four-run second inning, and his second dinger was of the three-run variety in the fifth.

Mike Harrington (Glens Falls) needed just 57 pitches to get through six scoreless innings as he scattered four hits with no walks and added five strikeouts to improve to 6-0. Jason Martin (Turin/South Lewis) threw two hitless innings of relief with one walk and Sal Zafonte (Sayville) pitched a perfect ninth with one strikeout.

Frank Vesuvio (Armonk/Byram Hills) came off the bench and went 2-for-2 with three RBI and a run scored. He also hit his first home run of the season with a solo blast in the sixth and delivered a two-run double an inning later.

Jon Warner (Tully) finished 1-for-2 with a walk and three runs scored. Personius was 2-for-2 before being removed and finished the day at a combined 5-for-7 clip with an RBI and three runs. Wyatt Myers (Chittenango) had a two-RBI single in the fifth and Joe Tardif (Cutchogue/Mattituck) finished 1-for-1 with a walk, two RBI and a pair of runs.

Elmira starter Zach Williamson made it through three innings while surrendering six runs, four earned, on six hits in the loss. Joey Florio finished 1-for-2 at the plate for the Soaring Eagles (3-20).
