Brockport Blows Away Wolves, 15-7

KEUKA PARK, N.Y.— The College at Brockport baseball team excelled with the bats on Monday as they defeated Keuka College, 15-7, in a non-conference battle. The team recorded 13 hits and took advantage of five errors made by the opposition to jump out to a large lead. The win pushes the Green and Gold to a 16-16 overall record on the year, while the Wolves fall to 9-12 on the season.

The Golden Eagles got off to a hot start, putting up five runs in the first inning. Nicholas Pastore reached on a fielder's choice and after an error, he was joined by Justin LaRosa to put two runners on base. Tom Kretzler came to bat and singled to left field, which scored Pastore and moved LaRosa to second. After another error by the Wolves, Justin Valentino was able to reach first base and LaRosa came around to score. The following batter, Josh Cosgrove, tripled down the right field line, bringing in two runs and he later came around off an Anthony Eaton double to make the score 5-0.

The Green and Gold responded to scoring by the opposition by adding two runs in the top of the fourth. After a single by Eaton and advancing to second on a failed pickoff, Charlie Serino tripled to left field to bring him in. A batter later a hard hit out by Pastore to first base was enough to bring in the run and increase the lead to 7-4. Another pair of runs came across to score in the top of the sixth, once again responding to scoring by the Wolves. Luke Gilbert singled to right field and scored Serino and Jack Wallwork to bring the score to 9-6.

Another set of runs came across in the top of the seventh, starting with Justin Valentino and Matt Van Allen working back-to-back walks. Both would move over on a passed ball before an Eaton walk loaded the bases. A wild pitch brought in a run, before a fielder's choice by Serino brought in Allen to increase the lead to 11-6. The Green and Gold added four more runs in the top of the eighth to hit their way to a 15-6 victory.

Cooper Meldrim earned the start and pitched 4.0 innings, allowing four runs on three hits and striking out three. Chris Cramer and Jimmy Lovelass combined for 3.0 innings of one hit, scoreless baseball out of the bullpen. Matthew Colucci pitched the final inning, walking one batter, while striking out another,

The Golden Eagles wrap up State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) play on Wednesday, April 25 when they host SUNY Oneonta for a single game slated for 3 p.m.
