FREDONIA, N.Y. – Junior
Jon Craft (Smithtown, N.Y. / Smithtown West) went two-for-five at the plate and recorded one run and two RBIs including the game winner for the Plattsburgh State baseball team in their 5-4 12-inning win over Fredonia on Friday evening at Ludwig Field.
Plattsburgh State improves to 10-21 overall and 2-14 in the SUNYAC while Fredonia falls to 15-13, 5-10 in the conference.
The Cardinals took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third when freshman
Anthony Maag (Center Moriches, N.Y. / Center Moriches) hit a sacrifice fly out to right field to plate sophomore
Keller Kowalowski (Plattsburgh, N.Y. / Beekmantown) who started the inning off with a single up the middle.
Fredonia recorded a two-run single through the left side in the bottom of the fourth to take the lead 2-1.
Junior
Jordan Godfrey (Castleton, Vt. / Rutland) tied the game in the top of the sixth when Craft singled to right center and Craft scored off a single by freshman
Simon Alvarez (Poughkeepsie, N.Y. / Arlington) for a 3-2 edge.
Fredonia recorded another two-run single in the bottom of the seventh to take the lead back 4-3.
Sophomore
Kentaro Mori (Tokyo, Japan / Joto) tied the game 4-4 in the top of the ninth off a sacrifice fly from freshman
Erik Matz (Medford, N.Y. / Patchogue-Medford).
Plattsburgh States pitching staff was able to hold off the Blue Devils in the ninth to force the game into extra innings.
The game remained tied for two more innings with each team's defense moving quickly.
With two on base and two outs in the top of the 12th Craft doubled to left center to plate Matz and take a one-run advantage.
Fredonia was able to record two hits in the bottom of the 12th but Plattsburgh States defense was able to shut them down and take the win.
Junior
Matt Fox (Shoreham, N.Y. / Shoreham-Wading River) pitched 5.2 innings and gave up six hits, two runs, walked one and struck out two.
Sophomore
Brantley Marion (Plattsburgh, N.Y. / Beekmantown) pitched one inning and scattered two hits and two runs.
Junior
PJ Weeks (Bayport, N.Y. / Bayport-Blue Point) pitched 1.1 innings and dispersed two hits, walked one and struck out one.
Junior
Ryan Whalen (Plattsburgh, N.Y. / Plattsburgh) took the win after pitching four innings and only giving up three hits.
The Cardinals will finish their series against Fredonia Saturday, April 28 with a doubleheader starting at noon.
