OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State women's basketball team dropped its season opener, 67-52, to Clarkson on Wednesday.
After falling behind 19-9 in the first quarter, the Lakers came back for a big second quarter. Senior
Courtney Ameele got things going for Oswego, opening the quarter with a jumper 10 seconds into play. Less than a minute later, the senior put up a 3-pointer, assisted by teammate
Sarah Feminella. A free throw by freshman
Raiven Encarnacion pulled the Lakers within six of the Golden Knights.
Oswego kept its momentum going throughout the second quarter. With less than a minute to go in the first half,
Quincey Zimmerman sunk a free throw to cut Clarkson's lead to two. The deficit was the Lakers' smallest of the night.
Rachael Windhausen led the Lakers with 15 points in their season-opener, coming from six field goals and three free throws. One point behind Windhausen was Ameele, who notched 14 points and five assists for Oswego.
The Lakers will be back in action when they host the Max Ziel Tournament this weekend. Oswego will play its first game of the tournament at 7:30 p.m. on Friday against Medgar Evers.
