POTSDAM, N.Y. – Eleven different players scored goals as the Cortland men's lacrosse team earned the top seed in the upcoming SUNYAC Tournament with a 19-8 victory at Potsdam Saturday afternoon. The Red Dragons improved to 10-6 overall and 5-1 in the conference, while the Bears ended their season at 4-11 and 1-5.
Graduate student
Devin Phelps (Chittenango) led all scorers with six points on five goals and one assist for Cortland. Sophomore
Danny Caroussos (Smithtown/Smithtown West) notched a career-best three goals, junior
Dean Riley (Homer) totaled five points on two goals and three assists and junior
Terrence Haggerty (Centerport/Harborfields) netted a pair of goals.
Senior
Trevor Pratt (Denver, CO/Colorado Academy) and junior
Joey Panariello (Islip) each recorded one goal and two assists, while seniors
Nate Beresovoy (LaFayette) and
Eddie Eddington (Geneva) and freshmen
Jon Ecker (Macedon/Wayne),
Brandon Stiles (Mastic/Eastport-South Manor) and
David Biank (Roxbury, NJ) scored one goal each. For Ecker, the goal was the first of his Red Dragon career. Senior
Tyler Brown (Camillus/West Genesee) chipped in with two assists, and four others each added one assist, including sophomore
Michael Carrello (Bethpage) who notched his first career point as a Red Dragon.

Joe Scalise (Fairport) made three saves through the first three quarters. Sophomore
Jake Craybas (Bethel, CT) played the fourth quarter in the cage, stopping four shots. Sophomore
Brian Williams (Holtsville/Sachem East) won 12-of-15 faceoffs and collected eight ground balls. Freshman
Kevin Tiedemann (Port Jefferson Station/Comsewogue) won 7-of-9 faceoffs as the Red Dragons were successful on 23-of-31 attempts in the game.
Pratt scooped up six ground balls, Caroussos and Haggerty collected three ground balls and freshman
Jacob Rivers (Homer) also secured three ground balls. Freshman
Tristan Hogan (Westhampton Beach) caused three turnovers, and seniors
Michael O'Connor (Ossining) and
Justin Siracusa (Sayville) each recorded two caused turnovers.
Eric Soderquist paced Potsdam with two goals and one assist. Josh Huiatt also netted two goals, while Nick Slate, Ryan Waldron, Nick Orsini and Gabe Carbone each scored a goal. Tayte Murray registered two assists, and Cole Zeller and Lukas Baildon chipped in with one assist apiece.
Zach Sheridan started in goal for the Bears, making 11 saves in 45 minutes. Sean Coe stopped two shots in 10:47, and Mike Nowak registered one save in 4:13. Huiatt finished with six ground balls, Soderquist added five ground balls and Ryan Canham and Colby Chapman collected three ground balls each.
