NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State baseball team's attempted rally in the ninth inning was cut short by New Paltz in their 8-5 loss Friday evening at Loren Campbell Field.
Plattsburgh State falls to 7-15 overall and 1-9 in the SUNYAC while New Paltz moves to 10-11 and 3-4 in the conference.
Junior
Patrick Bryant (Center Moriches, N.Y. / Center Moriches) went 4-for-4 at the plate with two RBI's including the first run of the game.
P. Bryant singled to left field in the top of the fourth inning to plate junior
Jon Craft (Smithtown, N.Y. / Smithtown West) who started the inning off with a double down the left field line.
New Paltz's Chris Moran tied the game in the bottom of the fourth with a home run to left center.
Moran homered again in the sixth inning this time scoring three runs.
Senior
Joe Deland (Farmingville, N.Y. / Sachem East) scored the Cardinals second run in the top of the seventh inning off an error after freshman
Jack Bermingham (Monroe, N.Y. / Monroe-Woodbury) singled to the short stop and advanced on his throwing error.
The Hawks had a two-run double hit to right field in the bottom of the seventh and had a two-run single in the bottom of the eighth to take an 8-2 lead.
The Cardinals started to rally in the ninth starting with P. Bryant singling to right field to score sophomore
Keller Kowalowski (Plattsburgh, N.Y. / Beekmantown).
Bermingham scored off a sacrifice fly from senior
Noah Clark (Toms River, N.J. / Toms River East) and Craft scored off a single from sophomore
Stephen Bryant (Center Moriches, N.Y. / Center Moriches) to come within three runs of the lead.
Unfortunately, the Hawks pitching staff was able to make the final out with a K and the Cardinals fell by three.
Junior
Matt Fox (Shoreham, N.Y. / Shoreham-Wading River) pitched 6.1 innings and gave up six hits, six runs, walked three and struck out two.
Sophomore
Connor Lyons (Brookhaven, N.Y. / Bellport) pitched 1.2 innings and scattered two hits, two runs, walked one and struck out two.
The Cardinals will finish their series against New Paltz Saturday, April 14 with a doubleheader starting at 11:30 a.m.
