Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Lakers Sail Past Utica in Women's Lacrosse

OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State women's lacrosse team got goals from seven different players as they sailed to a 19-7 victory over the Pioneers of Utica College.  The 19 goals is the second-highest scoring output for Oswego during the 2018 season.  The Lakers improve their record to 4-2 while the Pioneers drop to 4-3 on the season.

After an opening goal from the opposition, the Oswego State offense responded in a big way by scoring the next twelve goals of the first half.  Leading the charge was senior Gemma O'Kane who netted three goals in the run while Kamryn Sherman, Montana Garrett and Toni Laneve each had a pair.

The Lakers kept momentum into the second half with goals from Garrett, Laneve, and Sherman that pushed the lead out to 15-1.  A goal from Utica would stop the run at 14 straight, but Brigid Regin and Riley Jaquin would each add their second goals of the game to make it 17-2.

Laneve and O'Kane each scored their fourth goals of the game around another Utica score to give the Lakers their largest lead of the contest at 16 with 11 minutes left on the clock.  Teresa Shattuck assisted on O'Kane's final goal, her sixth assist of the contest and team-leading seventh point of the day.

Shattuck currently leads Oswego with 40 points on 12 goals and 28 assists.  Laneve's 20 goals leads the way in that category with O'Kane's 16 the next best.

Senior Angela Ponto improves her record to 4-2 on the season with the win while lowering her goals against average to 8.12 per game.  She tallied 12 saves while only allowing three goals in just over 52 minutes of action.  Elianna Sanchez made a pair of saves in a little over seven minutes of action in relief.

The women's lacrosse team heads back to the field next Saturday at 12 p.m. when they host conference-foe Brockport at the Laker Turf Stadium.
