GENESEO, N.Y. – Despite receiving a team-leading fifth goal of the season from freshman forward
Rich McCartney (Hershey, Pa./Philadelphia Revolution), the No. 13/14 Plattsburgh State men's ice hockey team fell to No. 8/8 SUNY Geneseo, 4-1, in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) action on Saturday evening at the Ira S. Wilson Ice Arena.
The Cardinals are ranked at No. 13 in the USCHO.com Men's Division III Top-15 Poll and No. 14 in the D3hockey.com Men's Top-15 Poll. The Knights are ranked at No. 8 in both the USCHO.com Men's Division III Top-15 Poll and the D3hockey.com Men's Top-15 Poll.
Both teams finished with 26 shots, while Geneseo held the upper hand with special teams. The Knights were 1-for-3 on the power play and killed off all five penalties they sustained.
Plattsburgh State drops to 2-3-0 overall (2-2-0 SUNYAC) with the loss and visits SUNY Potsdam next on Saturday, Nov. 18, at 7 p.m. Geneseo rises to 5-1-0 overall (3-1-0 SUNYAC) with the win and visits Morrisville State College next on Friday, Nov. 17, at 7 p.m.
Senior defenseman Pat Condon put Geneseo on the board 1:47 into the contest, scoring from the high slot on a pass from sophomore forward Conlan Keenan that came from the right face-off circle. Sophomore forward Andrew Romano also earned an assist on the goal.
McCartney tied the score at 1-all 1:15 later, hammering home the puck in the low slot that came off a rebound from a shot taken by sophomore defenseman

Connor Logan (Victoria, British Columbia/North Battleford North Stars) also earned an assist on the score, which served as the first point of his career.
The Knights scored the eventual game-winner midway through the first period, as junior forward Anthony Marra tallied on an odd-man rush. Freshman defenseman Kyle Hartman and Romano picked up assists on the play. Keenan scored on the power play with 1:35 gone in the second period following a feed from Romano, while Marra added insurance midway through the second with his second goal of the game. Sophomore forwards Erik Pedersen and Tyson Empey notched assists on Marra's second marker.
Freshman goaltender
Jimmy Poreda (Tonawanda, N.Y./Connecticut Jr. Rangers) stopped 22 shots in the loss for the Cardinals, while junior goaltender Devin McDonald made 25 saves in the win for the Knights.
