No. 21 Cortland downs Bears on the road

CORTLAND, N.Y.—The 21st-ranked SUNY Cortland women's lacrosse team (8-4, 3-0 SUNYAC) defeated the SUNY Potsdam women's lacrosse team (4-7, 1-3) 17-2 on Tuesday afternoon. Sophomores Alli Stark (Walworth, N.Y./Gananda) and Lane Perl (Fulton, N.Y./G. Ray Bodley) each scored for the Bears.

The powerful Red Dragons opened the contest with the first 11 goals to seize control. Jaycie Annable and Kristyn Drake each scored twice for Cortland. Stark got the Bears on the board with an assist from Perl at 9:06. The Red Dragons then scored the last three of the half, including two from Hannah Tiso, for a 14-1 advantage.

Three different Red Dragons scored over the first 12:31 of the second half before Perl closed the scoring with a free-position marker.

Sophomore Alexa Ferrer (Warwick, N.Y./Warwick Valley) made her first appearance in goal for Potsdam and made four stops in the first half. She was relieved by sophomore Kayla McCabe (Watertown, N.Y./General Brown) in the second half. McCabe, who is a goalie for the Bears' women's hockey team, stopped six shots. Annie Casey made one save to earn the victory.

The Bears are back in action on Friday, when they head to SUNY Canton for a 4 p.m. showdown with the Kangaroos.
