Hubbard Reaches 200-Point Milestone in Men's Lacrosse's 10-6 Win Over Geneseo in Regular-Season Finale

GENESEO, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State men's lacrosse team overcame a 4-0 deficit and concluded its regular season with a 10-6 win over SUNY Geneseo on Saturday afternoon in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) action at College Stadium.
 
Senior attackman Ryan Hubbard (Aquebogue, N.Y./Riverhead) finished the day with three points on two goals and an assist, upping his career point total to 200. He becomes just the fourth Cardinal to reach the 200-point plateau.
 
Both teams finished with 38 shots, while Plattsburgh State held a 19-15 edge in ground balls. The Cardinals were a perfect 15-for-15 in clear attempts, while the Knights went 19-for-22 in transition. With the extra attacker, Plattsburgh State was 1-for-10, while Geneseo was 0-for-4.
 
Plattsburgh State rises to 6-8 overall (5-1 SUNYAC) with the victory, stretching its winning streak to five. The Cardinals secured the No. 2 seed in the SUNYAC Tournament and will host third-seeded The College at Brockport in the semifinal round on Wednesday, May 2, at 4 p.m. at the Field House Complex. Geneseo finishes its season at 7-7 overall (2-4 SUNYAC).
 
The Knights came out hot out of the gates, with senior attackman Ryan Kelly scoring the game's first goal just one minute into the contest before freshman attackman Connor Smith converted on a feed from freshman attackman Tim Fallo midway through the first quarter. Senior midfielder Luke Jordan scored on a pass from junior attackman Kyle Wanamaker just more than two minutes later to hand the Knights a 3-0 lead through one period of play.
 
Geneseo's sophomore attackman Matthew Malone buried a pass from Smith to make it a 4-0 game four minutes into the second before freshman attackman Connor Wolff (Niskayuna, N.Y./Niskayuna) netted a man-up goal on a feed from Hubbard to put the Cardinals on the board. Senior midfielder Billy Moller (Greenlawn, N.Y./Harborfields) cut the deficit in half 1:15 later, converting on an assist from junior attackman Jake Carroll (East Northport, N.Y./Northport), and that provided the halftime score of 4-2.
 
Carroll tallied unassisted 2:44 into the third quarter before Carroll connected with Moller for a marker less than a minute later to tie the score at 4-all. Hubbard gave the Cardinals the lead with 9:32 left in the third with an unassisted goal. Geneseo countered with goals from senior midfielder Alex Leuze and sophomore attackman Dillon Rogers to regain the lead, while sophomore midfielder Kevin Murphy (Sayville, N.Y./Sayville) scored with 2:10 left in the period to knot the tally at 6-all.
 
Plattsburgh State held Geneseo scoreless in the fourth quarter and netted four goals in the stanza to come away with the win. Carroll scored nine seconds into the fourth before sophomore midfielder Kevin Litchauer (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Arlington) found twine with 2:56 elapsed in the period. Freshman attackman Stephen Kane (Hampden, Mass./Minnechaug Regional) tallied on a Litchauer feed 1:01 later before Hubbard added an insurance goal with 1:03 to go before the final horn.
 
Carroll finished with four points on two goals and two assists, while Hubbard (two goals, one assist), Litchauer (one goal, one assist) and Moller (two goals) each had multiple points as well. Senior face-off specialist Travis Mauro (Northport, N.Y./Northport) went 16-for-20 at the X, while Moller scooped up four ground balls.
 
Smith was the lone Knight to post multiple points, tallying a goal and an assist.
 
Senior goalie Donald Tesoriero (Huntington, N.Y./Huntington) earned the win in goal for Plattsburgh State, making 10 saves, while senior goalie Michael Yehl turned aside 13 shots in the loss for Geneseo.
