Game Recap: Baseball |

Brockport Baseball Split Home Opener

BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The College at Brockport baseball team was finally able to play games on their home field as they hosted State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) foe Fredonia State on Saturday. The highlight of the day was a tremendous honoring of service men and women of the community and of the world. The third annual Hometown Heroes had a special guest, Todd Baxter, to throw out the ceremonial first pitch prior to the start of competition.

The Golden Eagles were different teams from game one to game two, as they first fell by a score of 8-0, but then came back and won the second leg 14-5. When the dust settled, Brockport held a 15-15 overall record and a 9-7 SUNYAC mark, while the Blue Devils now sit at 13-12 on the season and 4-9 in conference play.

Game One: Loss 8-0

The Green and Gold fell behind 1-0 in the first inning but put themselves in good position to tie it up in the bottom of the frame. Tom Kretzler doubled to right center and advanced to third after an Avery Brooks ground ball. Liam O'Leary worked a walk to put two runners on base, but the bats were unable to tie up the game. The Golden Eagles were unable to string together consistent at bats and hits the rest of the game and fell 8-0.

Game Two: Win 14-5

The second frame of the double header was a completely different story from the first. In the first inning, the lineup batted around, worked seven walks, three hits and brought across eight runs. In addition, the Blue Devils used three different pitchers to get through the inning. Nicholas Pastore was the hot bat in the game, going 4-for-4 with a double, homerun, recorded five RBI and scored three runs of his own.

Sam McCumiskey pitched 4.0 innings of four hit, one run baseball and struck out five batters to earn the win. Noah Dilbone came in in relief and pitched 2.1 innings of scoreless baseball until four unearned came across to score prior to him recorded the final two outs of the game.

The Golden Eagles play the third game of the series against Fredonia State on Sunday, April 22 with the first pitch scheduled for 12 p.m.
