Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Devils fall 2-0 to nationally ranked JCU

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio -- Fredonia fell to nationally ranked John Carroll, 2-0, in non-conference men's soccer Tuesday night.

The Blue Streaks scored both goals in the second half, the first by Hayden Parente in the 50th minute and an insurance tally by Chad Kanakkanatt in the 87th minute.

Liam McIntosh made three save to pick up the shutout for John Carroll, which is ranked No. 6 in both the United Soccer Coaches and the D3Soccer polls.

"The are ranked No. 6 (and) they are all that they're cracked up to be," Fredonia Head Coach P.J. Gondek said.

"We started great and had some early chances," Gondek continued, "but then we had to think about our conference game looming Saturday and had to change our substitution pattern. In the second half, we had six freshmen on at one point but that's good for their experience."

Ty Bentham (Columbus, Ind.) made 12 saves in the Fredonia net. He had a SUNYAC-leading 44 saves prior to Tuesday.

In addition, senior forward Ryan Ross (Grand Island, N.Y.) entered the game ranked seventh nationally with six assists and 11th nationally at 0.75 assists per game. He leads SUNYAC in both categories.

Next up for Fredonia is a trip Saturday to face Buffalo State, another in the Battle By The Lake series. Game time is 1 p.m.
