Hoboken, NJ. The SUNY Oneonta baseball team spilt a weekend series against Stevens Institute yesterday playing a day-night doubleheader. The Red Dragons captured its 10
th win of the season to advance to 10-19 and the Ducks are now 20-14. On the day, the Red Dragons hit three home runs to score four runs.
In game one, the Red Dragons scored nine runs off of eight hits and seven walks en route to a 9-8 victory in extra innings. Senior
James McCarty (Stony Brook/Chaminade) earned the win pitching two innings including a scoreless bottom half of the 10
th. In his second win of the season he struck out two batters while allowing only two hits in two innings of work. Senior
RJ Lyman (Mohegan Lake/Walter Panas) pitched in relief in the 7
th and 8
th inning and only allowed one hit.
On the offensive side of the ball, the Red Dragons benefited from the long ball at the top of the order. Senior
Dalton Beatty (Atwater, CA/Atwater) knocked his first home run of the season in the top half of the 10
th inning and junior
Dominic Lamonica (Stony Brook/Ward Melville) hit a two run shot in the 5
th inning. They both finished the game 2-5 while scoring a combined four runs and knocking in five runs. Sophomore
James Ceparano (Melville/Half Hollow Hills East) finished the game 1-4 with two runs scored and a walk.
The second game of the doubleheader ended with the Ducks on top 10-5. The Red Dragons sent out
Robert Ottaviano (Nanuet/Albertus Magnus) to pitch the seven inning game. He went 2.1 innings allowing five earned runs while striking out three. In relief,
Ryan Fay (Carmel/Carmel High School) pitched 1.2 innings and struck out five batters.
John Zinko (Wallkill/Wallkill) had two of the Red Dragons' four hits including a double and a home run. His home run came in the 5
th where he drove the ball over the right field fence.
The Red Dragons are back in action on the road in Amsterdam, NY against Union College on Tuesday at 7:00pm. Â
