Plattsburgh, NY – The State University of New York at New Paltz women's tennis team fought against some inclement weather during the first weekend of conference matches, but managed to squeeze out a 5-0 victory over SUNY Cortland before the weather stopped play.
The duo of Jenna and
Brittany Grandville got things going for the Hawks with an 8-0 victory at third doubles.
Carol Tyson and
Victoria Zezula followed suit with an 8-3 victory at first doubles while
Emi Lewis and
Courtney Koran sealed the sweep of the doubles for New Paltz.
With bad weather on the horizon it was a race to five points for the Hawks.
Lindsay Haley won handily at sixth singles 6-0 6-0.
Courtney Koran finished the day unbeaten for New Paltz winning at 5
th singles 6-2 6-3 and secured the match for the Hawks. The win was a good start to making a return to the conference championships for the 15
th consecutive year.
Head coach
Rob Bruley said, "It was good to get back into winning ways after a disruptive day with weather issues."
The Hawks were supposed to play Oneonta later that day, but was postponed due to the weather. New Paltz returns home next weekend to face Plattsburgh on Friday, Sept. 15 and RPI on Saturday.
