Brockport Wraps Up SUNYAC Play Against Oneonta

BROCKPORT, N.Y.-- The College at Brockport baseball team battled on Wednesday against SUNY Oneonta to finish their State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) play. Despite the bats coming alive in the final innings they were unable to earn victory falling 11-10.

The Golden Eagles now hold a 16-17 overall record and 9-9 in SUNYAC play, while the Red Dragons move to 11-20 on the season and 6-9 in conference competition.

After a slow start, letting up five runs in the first, Brockport struck back in the bottom of the third inning. Nicolas Pastore singled to third to lead off the inning, stole second and then scored on a Tom Kretzler single into right field leaving the score 5-1. Lou Miceli added a run in the bottom of the fourth after he hit a solo homerun to right field and cut the score to 8-2.

Brockport turned it on in the sixth after Pastore brought in the first run of the inning on an RBI single that scored Miceli. Brooks followed with a hard hit ball that lead to an error by the opposition, which proved enough to bring in Drew DeBlasiis and Justin Valentino. The Green and Gold cut the deficit to 10-5.

The Golden Eagles took advantage of mistakes made by the Red Dragons in the seventh. Liam O'Leary reached on a catcher interference to load the bases and then Pastore singled up the middle to knock in two more runs to bring the score to 10-8.  After adding a run in the eighth, Brockport entered the ninth down two runs. Avery Brooks singled into right field followed by a Kretzler double down the left field line scoring Luke Gilbert who pinch ran for Brooks.  Unfortunately the comeback came up short as the team lost 11-10.

The Golden Eagles play home again on Sunday, April 29 against Rochester Institute of Technology with the first pitch of the double header slated for 12 p.m. The Green and Gold will honor their seniors between games.
