CORTLAND, N.Y. - Fredonia won two of three doubles matches and then captured the second through fifth singles flights to defeat host Cortland, 6-3, in a SUNYAC women's tennis match.

The Blue Devils improved to 11-1 overall and 3-1 in the SUNYAC. Cortland fell to 3-7 overall and 1-5 in league action.

Cortland earned victories at first doubles and first and sixth singles. In doubles play, Mia Hayes (Binghamton/Chenango Forks) and Chloe Knapp (Jamestown) won 9-7 on the first flight versus Anna Chiacchia and Olivia Miller.

Fredonia, however, pulled out a win at third doubles when Jane Chiacchia and Taylor Marelli edged Cassie Special (Williamsville/Williamsville South) and Tina Wertman (Rochester/Caledonia-Mumford), 9-8, after winning the tiebreaker, 7-1. The Blue Devils' Sarah Bunk and Mikayla Johnson won 8-2 at second doubles.

Fredonia clinched the team victory with wins in the first three singles matches that finished. Bunk won 6-0, 2-1 (retired) at third singles, Johnson won 6-1, 6-0 at fourth singles, and Miller was a 6-1, 6-1 winner at second singles.

Olivia Terry (Hampton Bays) recorded a 6-3, 6-1 win for Cortland at sixth singles and Hayes was victorious at first singles, 7-5, 6-3. The final match of the day went to a super tiebreaker to 10 points in lieu of the third set, with Jane Chiacchia nipping Special at fifth singles, 4-6, 6-3, 10-5.

Cortland closes out its SUNYAC schedule at Oswego on Tuesday at 3 p.m.
