FREDONIA, N.Y. -- Fredonia withstood an onslaught of shots for a 0-0 double-overtime tie Saturday with Plattsburgh in SUNYAC women's soccer at University Stadium.

Outshot 39-9 over the 110 minutes, the Blue Devils (6-9-1 overall, 2-4-1 SUNYAC) managed a point while the Cardinals (10-3-2 overall, 5-0-2 SUNYAC) secured a playoff spot into the upcoming conference tournament. In addition to the shot disparity, Plattsburgh had an 11-3 advantage in corner kicks.

Yet despite all the pressure, Fredonia had a chance to steal a win late in the second overall. Sophomore midfielder Olivia Coccito (Spencerport, N.Y.) delivered a long through ball which junior forward Aleeya Clemons (Olean, N.Y.) chased down. With two defenders in pursuit and Plattsburgh goalkeeper Nichole Gibson coming at her hard, Clemons chipped her shot wide right in the 108th minute.

It was the team-leading third shot of the game for Clemons. Three Cardinals took seven shots each: Sarah Haight, Cait Gager, and Ernest McIntosh.

Gibson finished with three saves in the Plattsburgh net while Fredonia freshman Marissa Quimby (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) had 12 saves while posting her fourth collegiate shutout. The 12 saves equals her single-game high this season -- the previous time game in the season-opener vs. Baldwin Wallace -- and she lowered her goals-against average to 1.67.

Its seven conference points (three for a win, one for a tie) puts Fredonia in sole possession of seventh place, three points behind sixth-place Brockport, for the last spot in the six-team tournament. The Blue Devils close out their regular season next Friday and Saturday with games at New Paltz and Oneonta, respectively.

Saturday was also Senior Day for the lone Blue Devil senior, captain Audrey Yokopovich (Webster, N.Y.), who was recognized along with her family during a pre-game ceremony.
