Richardson's Game Winner Lifts Women's Lacrosse to 12-11 Win Over Mount Saint Vincent; Cardinals Move to Historic 3-0 Start

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – Freshman attacker/defender Deja Richardson (Rochester, N.Y./Sperry) scored the game-winning goal with 25.6 seconds left in regulation to lift the Plattsburgh State women's lacrosse team to a 12-11 win over the College of Mount Saint Vincent in non-conference action Saturday afternoon at the Field House Complex.

The victory moved the Cardinals to a historic 3-0 start, as they also set the program record in single-season wins with the triumph. Plattsburgh State puts its perfect record on the line on Tuesday, March 10, when it visits Castleton University for a 6 p.m. opening draw. Mount Saint Vincent falls to 2-2 overall with the loss and next visits Ramapo College on Wednesday, March 11, at 4 p.m. The Cardinals avenged their 16-12 loss to the Dolphins from their first-ever meeting last year on March 20, 2019, during Plattsburgh State's inaugural year of competition.

Plattsburgh State posted the first two goals of the contest, as freshman attacker/midfielder Kate Kennedy (Waddington, N.Y./Massena) scored 3:20 into the game before freshman attacker Katie Kallamni (Baldwin, N.Y./Baldwin) connected with junior midfielder Frankie Porcaro (Bellport, N.Y./Bellport) 2:03 later. Mount Saint Vincent got on the board with a goal from freshman midfielder Colleen MacNeil 14 seconds after Porcaro's score, while senior midfielder Kerri Corcoran (Rockville, Md./Richard Montgomery) buried a feed from freshman midfielder Caroline Noia (West Nyack, N.Y./Clarkstown South) to stake the Cardinals to a 3-1 advantage. Dolphin goals from MacNeil and junior midfielder Morgan Pavlik squared the score at 3-all, and after sophomore attacker/midfielder Allie Vangas (Cornwall-on-Hudson, N.Y./Cornwall) tallied on a woman-up goal, Mount Saint Vincent countered with a woman-up marker by sophomore midfielder Sophia Raccolin to tie the game at 4-all. Kallamni and Porcaro each scored unassisted to give Plattsburgh State a 6-4 cushion, but Mount Saint Vincent's senior midfielder Paulina Mandujano scored with 2:18 left in the first half and MacNeil tallied five seconds before halftime to knot the score at 6-all heading into the intermission.

Sophomore attacker Emily Caoili (Lagrangeville, N.Y./Arlington) found the back of the net 2:57 into the second half to put Plattsburgh State up, 7-6, but the Dolphins wound up tying the game 1:01 later with a goal from junior midfielder Caitlin Elia. Freshman midfielder/attacker Lindsay Guzzetta (East Islip, N.Y./East Islip) buried a pass from Richardson to make it an 8-7 game, but Mount Saint Vincent received two consecutive goals to take its first lead of the game. Junior attacker Emma Dell'Aquila scored unassisted with 22:19 left in regulation, while MacNeil put the Dolphins up, 9-8, with a marker midway through the stanza. Richardson leveled the score with an unassisted goal before MacNeil tallied woman-up on a pass from Dell'Aquila to stake Mount Saint Vincent to a 10-9 cushion.
