BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The College at Brockport women's lacrosse teams advances to the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) semi-finals after a dominate 20-7 victory over Buffalo State Tuesday afternoon. The Golden Eagles move to 8-8 on the year, where the Bengals end with a 7-11 record.
Brockport wasted no time in the opening half as
Jade Williams and
Taylor Thomas notched back-to-back goals in the first 42 seconds of the game, to a take a 2-0 advantage. Buffalo State chipped away at the lead one minute later to now trail, 2-1. The Green and Gold answered with a four-goal run to pull away 6-1.
Victoria Thompson started the scoring on the four-goal swing, followed by a goal from
Heather Conklin.
Andrea Zlinsky notched the third goal and
Chloe Kurst answered that with the final score 43 seconds later. The Golden Eagles slipped with the Buffalo State notched a pair of goals to cut the deficit to 6-3. Brockport locked down and closed out the half scoring an additional eight goals to taking a commanding 14-3 advantage. Five different Golden Eagles contributed to the eight straight goals, with Zlinsky scoring three, Williams adding two, and Conklin, Thompson, and
Hannah Cullen recording a goal each. Buffalo State added one late to trail Brockport 14-4 heading into halftime.
The Green and Gold continued to control the game in the second half as they tallied five goals to have a 19-4 lead through the first 14 minutes of action. Kurst opened up the scoring on a quick catch-and-shoot goals, followed by
Nikki Nolan converting her shot on the free position. Thomas, Conklin, and
Sara Grapevine all beat the Bengals goalie to increase their already large lead. Buffalo State picked up the pace in the final eight minutes of play notching three goals, but the lead to was too large as Brockport won the game by a final score of 20-7.
The Golden Eagles controlled the entire game from start to finish as they beat the Bengals is shots (34-25), shots on goal (29-20), draw controls (16-12), and had two fewer turnovers (13-15).
Zlinsky led offense on the game with four goals, while Williams and Conklin had three apiece. Grapevine finished the afternoon with one goal and dishing out five assists. Nolan led the defense as she ended the game with three caused turnovers, a groundball, and winning seven draw controls.
With this win, Brockport moves onto the semi-finals of the SUNYAC playoffs where they face SUNY Geneseo at Cortland, this Friday at 4 p.m.
