Oneonta, NY (Hartwick College) - In the opening weekend at the annual Hartwick Relays the men's swimming and diving squad began their season with a fifth place finish. The Red Dragons competed against squads from Hartwick, Brandeis University, Le Moyne College, The College of St. Rose and SUNY Cobleskill.
A few notable finishes for the Red Dragons happened in the 850 yard freestyle relay when junior
William Coddington (Highland Mills/Monroe-Woodbury), senior
Harrison Abrams (Fort Plain/Fort Plain), junior
Christopher Costanzo (Staten Island/Susan E. Wagner) and senior
Scott Richardson (Canandaigua/Canandaigua Academy) made it a top four finish just under twenty seconds off the lead from the winners of Le Moyne with a time of 8:20.29. In the 200 yard freestyle relay Abrams, Coddington, junior
Ryan Meehan (Brooklyn/Telecommunications) and senior
Devin Wunderlich (Kingston/Kingston) had a time of 1:32.25 which was also good enough for a top four finish just under two seconds behind the Brandeis leaders. In the 200 yard medley relay another top four finish for Oneonta when sophomore
Derek Luhrs (Cornwall/Cornwall Central), senior
Kevin Colella (East Northport/Commack), senior
Jared Ciccarelli (Staten Island/Tottenville) and Meehan with a time of 1:49.36 just under seven-seconds behind the Brandeis winners.
Another highlight for Oneonta occurred in the 400 yard freestyle relay finding a third place finish for Oneonta. Costanzo, Meehan, Abrams and Coddington touched the wall at 3:26.26 just over five-seconds behind the winners from LeMoyne.
On Saturday October 26th the Red Dragons begin their SUNYAC campaign as the men swim against the SUNY Oswego Lakers. The meet begins at 1 PM on the campus of SUNY Oswego.
