NEW YORK, N.Y.—The SUNY Potsdam women's basketball team (4-4) got off to a fast start and never looked back en route to 90-56 victory over the City College of New York (0-10) on Saturday evening. Sophomore forward
Devyn Elliott (Bronx, N.Y./Cardinal Spellman) scored a season-high 29 points and grabbed 20 rebounds. Freshman forward
Jakia Howard (Syracuse, N.Y./Nottingham) claimed her fourth career double-double with 14 points and 17 boards. Sophomore guard
Dyamon Hunter (Bronx, N.Y./Thurgood Marshall Academy) also totaled 14 points along with six boards and three assists.
Potsdam opened the game on an 18-2 run and led 23-8 after one quarter. Elliott scored 10 points in the first 10 minutes and Howard had six.
The Bears didn't slow down in the second quarter and extended their lead to 33-13 with a 10-5 start. The teams split the next 14 points, but Potsdam closed the half on a 9-0 run. Elliott and Howard matched their first quarter totals with 10 and six more points, respectively. Potsdam led 49-20 at the break.
The third quarter was the most competitive, but the Beavers were still outscored 21-19. Elliott added eight more to her total and sophomore guard
Dyamon Hunter (Bronx, N.Y./Thurgood Marshall Academy) scored six. Freshman guard
Caroline LaFountain (Saratoga Springs, N.Y./Saratoga Springs) broke into the scoring column with five points.
The final 10 minutes were tight as well, but CCNY couldn't gain ground on the wrong end of a 20-17 tally. Freshman guard
Madison Soroka (Watervliet, N.Y./Watervliet) sank two threes to lead the Bears in the fourth with six points. Sophomore guard
Lauren Martin (Akwesasne, N.Y./Salmon River) hit a three and a free throw for four points. Freshman forward
Deja Hall (Brooklyn, N.Y./Manhattan Early College School) scored the first four points of her career with two field goals.
The Bears outshot the Beavers 42-percent to 28 from the floor and obliterated CCNY on the glass 71-34.

Tsai Lewis (Cortland, N.Y./Cortland) scored seven points and sophomore guard
Alexis Davis (Brooklyn, N.Y./Williamsburg High School of Architecture & Design) posted five and grabbed nine boards.
Reilly Boehm led the Beavers with 41 of their 56 points and grabbed nine rebounds. Melanie Torres had 10 points and six boards.
The contest marked the first time Potsdam reached the 90-point plateau since a 90-74 victory at William Smith on January 3, 2009.
The Bears are off until they return to Jerry Welsh Gymnasium for their home opener against the College at Brockport on Friday, January 10 at 5:30 p.m.
