PLATTSBURGH, N.Y.— The College at Brockport women's soccer team dropped a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) game on Friday, losing to Plattsburgh State 3-1.
 
The loss brings Brockport's record to 8-6-2 and 3-4-1 in SUNYAC play. The Cardinals move to 11-3-2 and 6-0-2 in conference competition.
 
The Green and Gold were evenly matched in the first half of the game and took a 1-0 lead in the 29th minute after freshman Sarah Covell netted her fifth goal of her career. Marissa Greiner took a free-kick from mid-field that Covell was able to knock in past the goalie. The Cardinals netted two goals in an eight-minute span. Brockport was unable to net the equalizer and found themselves down 2-1 going into the break.
 
The Golden Eagles stayed competitive in the second half by creating opportunities, but were unable to score a tying goal. Brockport let up another goal in the 68th minute and could not rally a comeback as time expired. Krista Statt led the team in shots with four and Emma Nevers made nine saves in 77 minutes of play.
 
"We took the lead against a very good opponent," commented head coach Mike Idland. "Unfortunately we don't seem ready to handle that moment, sp we still have some room to grow, but im confident that we will put it together tomorrow."

The Green and Gold travel to SUNY Potsdam for a 1 p.m. matchup on Saturday as they hope to clinch a playoff spot in their final game of the regular season.
