BOX SCORE

Potsdam, NY – Tyler Bullard scored the game-winner 40 seconds into overtime as the SUNY Canton men's hockey team overcame a two-goal deficit late in the third period to earn a 4-3 win at SUNY Potsdam on Saturday evening.

THE BASICS
  • Result:  SUNY Canton 4, SUNY Potsdam 3, OT
  • Location: Maxcy Ice Arena – Potsdam, NY
  • Records: SUNY Canton (7-7-2) | SUNY Potsdam (6-10-0)
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Adam Petric got Canton on the board first just 2:26 into the game when Kyler Matthews won the puck and led Petric in on a breakout. Petric beat Potsdam goaltender Nate Skidmore short side for the early lead. Michael Cerasuolo made 16 first period saves to keep the Roos on top 1-0 after one.
  • The Bears knotted the game at one 14:48 of the middle period off the stick of Joey Sollazzo. Potsdam added a pair of goals less than a minute apart from Jack Bloem and Tyler Young to take a 3-1 lead early in the third period.
  • Tyson Bruce got Canton within a goal with just less than five minutes to play. Joe Deveny hit Christopher Mammas with a lead pass and as he was skating with the puck down to one knee, Bruce picked the puck up and finished at the far post.
  • The Roos pulled Cerasuolo with 1:06 remaining for the extra attacker and that paid off with 45 seconds remaining. Bruce found Bullard in the slot who left a drop off pass for Deveny. He played a quick pass across the face of goal to Jake Mayette who finished into the open net.
  • Canton completed the comeback 40 seconds into OT when Sean Shepard won the puck at the far boards playing a short pass up to Sean David who led Tyler Bullard in on a 2-on-1. He hit Bruce with a give-and-go as Bullard tipped the puck past Skidmore for the victory.
  • Cerasuolo came up one save short of his career-high with 46 as he improved to 6-2-2 on the season. Skidmore made 29 stops for the Bears.
  • The Roos were a perfect 5-for-5 on the penalty kill.

FROM THE BENCH
"That's a huge gritty win for our team; to be down two with less than five minutes to play and come back and win it in OT," Head Coach Alex Boak said. "That's a great credit to our guys never giving up. More importantly, I'm excited for our seniors going out with a win in their last game against Potsdam."
