Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Brockport kicks off Homecoming Weekend with 2-0 shutout over Plattsburgh

BROCKPORT, N.Y.-- The College at Brockport men's soccer team clinched the fourth seed in the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) playoffs after a win against Plattsburgh State, 2-0.

The win moves The Green and Gold to a record of 9-4-3 and 4-2-2 in SUNYAC play. The Cardinals fall to 9-6-1 on the year and 3-4-1 in league matchups.

The Golden Eagles were matched up tightly with the Cardinals as both were held off the scoreboard for the first 19 minutes. Brockport cracked the scoreboard in the 20th minute as senior defender Chris Aherne continued his tremendous season by knocking in his seventh goal of the year. A well-placed cross by Quintin Volpe allowed Aherne to give the team a 1-0 lead. Russell Hines knocked in his second goal of the season after a pass from Connor DeSantis inside the box gave him an open look. Brockport took the 2-0 lead into half time.

Brockport played the second half for possession in order to keep the Cardinals from making a comeback and limited them to only three shots after the break. Goalkeeper Joseph Romano made two saves in his 90 minutes of work as he and the veteran defense continued their superb play. It is the third shutout in four games for the Golden Eagles.

The Green and Gold wrap up SUNYAC play at 1 p.m. on Saturday as they honor their seniors against SUNY Potsdam.
