Golden Eagles Drop Series Finale, 4-2

BROCKPORT, N.Y.—The College at Brockport baseball team faced off against Fredonia State on Sunday for a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) battle. They were unable to earn the victory, falling by a score of 4-2. The Golden Eagles hold a record of 15-16 and a 9-8 mark in SUNYAC competition, while the Blue Devils move to 14-12 on the season and 5-9 in conference play.

The Green and Gold put runners in scoring position in the first two innings starting with Tom Kretzler reaching third base in the first inning using a single to left field and moving over after two passed balls. Lou Miceli was able to reach second in the second inning after a single to right center and hard ground ball by Drew DeBlasiis, but unfortunately no runs scored. The first run scored by Brockport came in the bottom of the third inning starting with Justin LaRosa hitting a ball through the right side. After a botched pickoff attempt by the opposition, LaRosa moved to third base and came across to score after a hard-hit ball by Nicholas Pastore.

Mark Giallanzo was the starting pitching and tossed 3.0 innings, giving up three runs on six hits, while striking out four batters. Trevor McCarthy was the first pitcher out of the bullpen and shut down the Blue Devils for 5.1 innings allowing one run on two hits and struck out a career-high seven batters. Anthony Eaton drove in the team's second run of the game in the sixth inning, sending a single to left field and bringing in Kretzler. Unfortunately, it was not enough as Brockport fell by a score of 4-2.

The Golden Eagles travel to Keuka College on Monday, April 23 for their next matchup. The game is set to begin at 4:30 p.m.
