On Monday evening, the St. Joseph's University (L.I.) women's lacrosse team dropped its season opener to New Paltz, 15-9.
Top performers:

How it happened:

The first quarter saw a close battle between the two teams, as the Hawks scored first but the Golden Eagles would respond scoring three unanswered goals

A goal late in the first from Melissa Newman would put St. Joseph's up 4-2 before New Paltz answered 40 seconds later with a goal of their own, giving SJLI the lead 4-3 at the end of the first

The Hawks would go on to take a commanding lead in the second quarter as they scored nine straight goals and entered the half with a 12-4 lead

Senior Emma Lange put the Golden Eagles back in the scoring column to open up the third quarter, as they outscored New Paltz 3-1 in the quarter

Trowbridge and Gennardo would score in the final quarter cutting the lead to 13-9 late in the fourth but two goals from Shaw would solidify the victory for the Hawks
