FREDONIA, N.Y.—Buffalo State suffered a straight-sets defeat at the hands of "Battle by the Lake" rival and host Fredonia tonight in the SUNYAC season-opener.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Fredonia was energized in front of its home crowd, winning the first two sets, 25-20 and 25-16.
- The Bengals pushed the Blue Devils deep into the third set, but ultimately fell 31-29.
- Lauren Hansen (Blue Point/Bayport Blue Point) led Buffalo State with 12 kills and 17 added digs.
- Alyssa Durski (Eden/Eden) had 19 assists and 11 digs.
- Brittney Valentine (Marietta/Marcellus) had a team-best 18 digs and two aces.
FOR THE FOES
- Kristen Stanek and Kailey Falk paced Fredonia with 15 and 12 kills respectively. Falk also had three aces and 18 digs.
- Hallie Christopher tallied 41 assists.
NOTEWORTHY
- Fredonia struck first in the "Battle by the Lake" competition, earning two points in the season-long all-sports competition.
