Men’s Basketball falls short against Oneonta, 74-70

BUFFALO, N.Y.— Four Buffalo State players scored in double-figures, including Kay Grant (Jamaica/Thomas Jefferson) who notched his fifth career double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds, but it was not enough as Oneonta tallied 46 second-half points en route to a 74-70 victory over the host Bengals in SUNYAC play this evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Jordan Christopher (Bronx/Mott Haven Campus) finished with a career-high 12 points off of the bench to go along with six rebounds.
  • Dom Grayer (Brooklyn/Bishop Loughlin) chipped in 12 points on 2 of 5 shooting from the 3-point line while Kareem Holmes (New York/The Knox School) added 10 points.
  • Buffalo State stormed out of the gates by scoring 13 of the first 17 points but failed to maintain the lead as Oneonta responded with a 22-7 run to retake the lead with 7:14 left in the first stanza.
  • The lead shifted once more as the Bengals tallied a pair of free throws from Holmes and a late jumper by Grayer to take a 32-28 lead at the halftime whistle.
  • The Red Dragons opened the second half on a 37-16 run to reclaim the lead and pushed it to 65-48 with eight minutes left in the contest.
  • Buffalo State chipped away at the lead for the next seven minutes until four-consecutive free throws from Ryniek Holloway (Corona/Bayside) trimmed the lead to 72-70 with 42 seconds left.
  • The Bengals had one final possession for a chance to even the score but could not complete the comeback as a layup from Holloway fell short. The Red Dragons netted a pair of free throws to seal the win.
  • Buffalo State held a 24-6 advantage in bench production while Oneonta forced 23 turnovers en route to a 30-17 points off of turnovers advantage.
 
FOR THE FOES
  • Joseph Bull and Andres Rivera each finished with a double-double as Bull tallied 20 points, 14 rebounds and six assists, while Rivera chipped in 20 points and 10 rebounds.
  • Kevin Mackin added 12 points.
