Men’s Hockey downs Nichols in opener, 4-3

BUFFALO, N.Y.— Anthony Passero (Fort Erie, ON/Lakeshore) scored twice and Michael Anthony Guerrera (Montreal, QC/Ontario Hockey Acad.) recorded three assists as Buffalo State opened up their season with a 4-3 win over visiting non-conference opponent Nichols this afternoon at the Buffalo State College Ice Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Nichols opened the game with two goals within the first six minutes of action.
  • Buffalo State got on the board with 10 minutes remaining in the first period when Zach Nieminen (Ajax, ON/Notre Dame CSS) found the back of the net off the assists from Reid Bibb (Gaithersburg, MD/Gaithersburg) and Guerrera.
  • The Bengals added another goal just 30 seconds into the second period when Hugo Petit (Chelsea, QC/CIH Academy) drove on a breakaway, past the defender and pushed it past the goalie to even the score. Guerrera and Mac Wood (Simcoe, ON/SCS) picked up assists on the play.
  • Buffalo State added a third goal 9:00 into the second period, when Passero collected a rebound off his initial shot and buried it into the back off the net. Zach Remers (Clarence, NY/Canisius) added an assist.
  • Passero added his second goal of the game, which turned out to be the game-winner, with less than two minutes left in the second period. Guerrera picked up the assist.
  • Ian Sylves (Sloan, NY/John F. Kennedy) recorded 14 saves in the net for the Bengals.
 
FOR THE FOES:
  • Colin Brennan recorded 21 saves in the loss for the Bison.

Buffalo State returns to the ice on Friday, Nov. 3 as it travels to Geneseo to open up SUNYAC play. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m.
