Women’s Lacrosse topples Potsdam, 10-4

BUFFALO, N.Y.— Nina Schaefer (Lafayette/Lafayette) and Kendall Skuse (Churchville/Churchville-Chili) each finished with three goals as Buffalo State used a fast start to cruise to a 10-4 win over visiting Potsdam in today's SUNYAC contest.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Schaefer tallied five points by adding two assists, while Skuse finished with three points.
  • Christina Krowel (Amseterdam/B.H.-B.L) added two goals late and finished with an assist.
  • Jackie Dufresne (Lake View/Frontier) tallied a goal and two assists and Ally Ruggieri (Brockport/Brockport) also scored.
  • Buffalo State opened the game with a pair of goals within the first two minutes of action to take an early 2-0 lead.
  • The Bengals extended its lead when Skuse scored a hat-trick in a span of five minutes to push the lead to 5-0. Buffalo State tacked on a final goal by Dufresne to extend its lead to 6-0 at halftime.
  • Potsdam responded in the opening minutes of the second half, with a goal on three shots to cut the lead to 6-1.
  • Schaefer completed her hat-trick with back-to-back goals to push the lead back to 8-1 with 13:16 left in the contest.
  • The Bears scored twice late in the second half, but couldn't complete the comeback as Krowel scored two goals in the final 10 minutes of action to finish off the win.
  • The Bengals outshot Potsdam 20-13 and finished with an 11-5 advantage in draw controls.
  • Elyse Stark (Lido Beach/Long Beach) finished with nine saves to preserve the win.
 
FOR THE FOES
  • Rachael Huntley scored twice and Alli Stark added a goal to lead the Bears.
  • Katie Longamore was credited with the loss in net, finishing with 10 saves in the contest.

Buffalo State will look to start 3-0 in SUNYAC play as it hosts Geneseo on Wednesday, April 11 at 4 p.m. on Coyer Field.
