Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Strong second half lifts men's basketball against Oswego

A Quick Look
Senior Harrison Deegan (Putnam Valley, NY/Putnam Valley) and sophomore Dylan Trombley (Moriah, NY/Moriah) combined for 25 second half points to lift the SUNY Oneonta men's basketball team to a 76-66 victory tonight at Oswego.  The Red Dragons broke a 44 all tie with just under 13 minutes left in the game and outscored the Lakers 32-22 to pick up its tenth win of the season while moving to 6-1 in the SUNYAC.

"I am very proud of our effort tonight," said Head Coach Cameron Conover.  "We were locked in defensively and made big plays down the stretch, with Dylan and Andres both drawing huge offensive fouls.  We played our best defense of the year for about 30 minutes.  We will keep working to improve our conditioning.  I thought we played extremely tough and we need to make this our standard night in and night out."

The Inside Story
Oneonta (10-4) shot 55 percent (16-29) in the second half including a combined 11-for-15 by Deegan and Trombley.  Trombley, who was held scoreless in the first half, was 3-for-3 from long range enroute to scoring 11 second half points.

The Red Dragons trailed 35-33 at halftime and quickly grabbed a 39-38 lead on a Kevin Mackin (Nanuet, NY/Nanuet) jumper.  The two squads then went back-and-forth with the lead until a Deegan steal and dunk gave Oneonta the lead for good.  Deegan finished the game with 18 points.

Oneonta took control of the contest with nine unanswered points to push its lead to 67-54 on a Trombley fast break layup at the 4:48 mark.

The Lakers made a final run at Oneonta cutting its deficit to seven points with 1:07 remaining.  The Red Dragons secured victory converting 3-of-4 free throws in the final minute.

Oneonta held a 24-14 lead in the first half before Oswego closed the half on a 21-9 run to grab its halftime lead.  Mackin and junior Joseph Bull (Bronx, NY/Mount St. Michael Academy) led the offense for Oneonta combining for 21 points.  Mackin finished with a team high 19 points and Bull added 17 points.

Just the Stats
Oneonta converted 15 Laker turnovers into 18 points while outscoring them 38-22 in the paint.  The Red Dragons finished the game shooting 50 percent and made 7-of-8 free throws.
