The SUNY Oneonta men's basketball team fell tonight to Oswego 47-41 on the road. The Red Dragons shot a season low 25 percent and were unable to hold onto a nine-point lead in the final 10 minutes of the game. Oswego (3-5, 1-1 SUNYAC) shot only 28 percent, but closed the game with a 19-4 run to secure the victory.

Dwayne Freeman (Schenectady/Notre-Dame Bishop Gibbons) led Oneonta (4-3, 1-2 SUNYAC) with 16 points and 12 points respectively. Freshman
Darren Brown (Fair Haven, VT/Fair Haven Union) came off the bench and contributed a season best nine points. Sophomore
Ian Schultz (Clifton Park/CBA) grabbed a team high 11 boards to go with five assists and three steals.

The two squads took turns with the lead in the first half with the final advantage going to Oneonta, 24-16, heading into halftime. The Red Dragons trailed 16-12 with 5:17 remaining in the opening 20 minutes before scoring 12 unanswered points to grab its lead at the break. Brown scored seven of those points during the run.

The Red Dragons continued to lead early on in the second half growing their advantage to 10 points after a layup by Mackin at 14:33. A three-pointer by Freeman, held the lead at nine points with 8:12 remaining.

The Lakers used a quick 7-0 run over the next two minutes to pull within a bucket at 37-35. Josh Ivey, who led Oswego with nine points off the bench, had a put back after grabbing an offensive rebound.

The Lakers evened the score at 39 apiece on a layup by Tyler Pierre with just over four minutes left. Oswego took its first lead since late in the first half on a pair of free throws by Liam Sanborn. Brown tied the game on the next trip down the floor for Oneonta, but unfortunately that would be the last points for the Red Dragons.

Oneonta will play its final SUNYAC game of the first semester this Saturday at New Paltz beginning at 3pm.
