Five players scored in double figures and SUNY Oneonta shot 60 percent from the field, as the Red Dragons defeated Keystone 97-85 in the season opener for both squads. Sophomore
Ian Schultz (Clifton Park/CBA) scored a career-high 20 points to lead Oneonta who shot 70 percent in the second half. Schultz also finished the game with a career-high 11 rebounds.

Oneonta's decided advantage tonight came in the paint where they outscored Keystone 64-44. Most of the points in the paint for the Red Dragons came from layups registering 32 points in each half near the basket.

Keystone's last run at the Red Dragons came in the first five minutes of the second half where they cut Oneonta's lead to four points at 58-54. Oneonta countered in the next five minutes to push its lead back to double digits where it grew to its largest lead of 13 points after a layup by freshman
Andres Rivera (Bronx/Walton). Rivera finished the game with 13 points off the bench.

After pushing out to an 8-4 lead in the opening three minutes of the contest, the hosts put together a 16-6 run to grab its largest lead of the game at 20-14 at the 11:21 mark.

The Red Dragons pushed back during the next three minutes going on a 12-4 run led by Rivera and junior
Matthew Boyd (Hempstead/Half Hollow Hills East). The two combined for 10 points including a layup by Boyd that gave Oneonta the lead for good at 26-25. The Red Dragons continued its run to the count of nine unanswered capped by an
Ian Schultz (Clifton Park/CBA) layup to give Oneonta a 35-25 lead with five minutes remaining in the first half.

Boyd and Schultz each scored 10 points in the first half helping Oneonta build a 48-36 lead at halftime.

Joining Schultz and Rivera in double figures tonight were senior
Dwayne Freeman (Schenectady/Notre-Dame Bishop Gibbons) (15), Boyd (14) and junior Anthony Kirkwood who added 10 points off the bench.

Oneonta will be in action this weekend at the Dutch Burch Tip-off tournament hosted by Lycoming. The Red Dragons will face DeSales University on Friday night at 8pm.
