OSWEGO, N.Y. -- The Fredonia women's volleyball team defeated Oneonta, 3-1, on the first day of Pool Play on Friday. Fredonia dropped the first set 16-25, before rallying in the last three, 25-18, 25-17, and 25-20.
Kristen Stanek (Hamburg, N.Y. / Orchard Park) led the Devils with 22 kills, and
Kailey Falk (York, N.Y. / Our Lady of Mercy) added 11 kills.
Emma Falk (York, N.Y. / Our Lady of Mercy) had eight kills.
Rachel Aiello (Baldwinsville, N.Y. / C.W. Baker) had six of the Devils 14 service aces.
Selena Brown (South Ozone Park, N.Y. / Hillcrest) paced the defense with six blocks. Kailey Falk had 15 digs while Courtney Poirer (West Seneca, N.Y. / West Seneca West) had 14.
Hallie Christopher (East Amherst, N.Y.) had 42 assists.
"We grinded after the first-set loss," Fredonia Head Coach
Geoff Braun said. "Our offense got better as the match progressed. Kristen really gave us a boost with her performance. Hallie did a nice job distributing the ball."
The Devils improved to 11-7 overall and 3-1 in the SUNYAC. The take on Potsdam tomorrow at noon before playing the host Oswego Lakers at 2:30.
