Red Dragons Blank Ithaca, 3-0, in Non-Conference Action

ITHACA, N.Y. – Junior Jess Gibaldi (Westbury/W.T. Clarke) scored twice to lead the Cortland field hockey team to a 3-0 non-conference victory at Ithaca Sunday afternoon. The Red Dragons improved to 7-3 with the win, while the Bombers fell to 6-4.

Junior Dani Barto (Nichols/Tioga Central) added a goal for Cortland, and seniors Anna Branch (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) and Megan O'Brien (Carmel) each contributed an assist.

Junior goalie Kailynne Reinoehl (Lititz, PA/Warwick) made seven saves in posting the shutout, and sophomore Sara Reardon (Little Falls) registered a defensive save for the Red Dragons. Goalie Savanna Lenker turned aside 12 shots for the Bombers.

Gibaldi scored the game winner just 2:33 into the contest, deflecting Branch's pass at the right post. Barto made it a 2-0 game at 53:34 when she knocked in a rebound after Lenker made a save on sophomore Hannah Burchell's (Whitney Point) shot. Gibaldi completed the scoring less than four minutes later with a blast from the center of the circle.
