ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Senior
Anna Branch (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) scored six minutes, 19 seconds into overtime to give the Cortland field hockey team a 1-0 victory at nationally 16th-ranked Rochester Tuesday night in non-conference action. The Red Dragons improved to 4-2 on the season with the win, while the Yellowjackets fell to 5-2.
Junior
Jessica Welsh (Hamilton) picked up the assist on Branch's goal for Cortland. Junior goalie Kailynne Reinoehl (Lititz, PA/Warwick) made five saves in posting the shutout for the Red Dragons. Goalie Gabrielle Cantley stopped two shots for Rochester.
After a scoreless 70 minutes of regulation in which the Yellowjackets outshot the Red Dragons, 13-2, Branch connected for the winning goal with a reverse-stick shot after collecting a long pass from Welsh in the circle.
Cortland returns to action with a conference contest at home versus Morrisville St. on Friday at 4 p.m.
