Brockport Holds On For 8-7 Victory

BROCKPORT, N.Y.—The College at Brockport baseball team used a big first inning to claim a victory on the day where a variety of members of the Golden Eagle family were honored pre-game. Coach Mee, families and seniors were all honored prior to the first pitch and they were treated to an intense game that ended with an 8-7 triumph over Rochester Institute of Technology. The Golden Eagles move to 17-18 on the season, while the Tiger fall to 14-12.

The Green and Gold got off to a blistering start, with senior Austin Hall getting it started with a single to left field. Anthony Eaton followed with a base hit of his on and Tom Kretzler loaded the bases with the third straight hit. Senior outfielder, Drew DeBlasiis, sent another single to left field and it was enough to bring in two runs. After a Justin LaRosa single to re-load the bases, seniors Avery Brooks and Luke Gilbert grounded out, but each one brought in a run. A few batters later, Hall came up to bat again and sent a double down the left-field line to bring in the final two runs of the inning and giving the team a 7-0 advantage.

Freshman, Cooper Meldrim, drew the start and pitched an impressive 6.0 innings of two-run baseball. He allowed six hits and walked two, while striking out five batters. Dave Sicina had his number called out of the bullpen and the senior worked a perfect seventh inning, striking out two batters in the process. After a nerve-wracking eighth inning, Chris Cramer entered in the ninth to close out the ball game and earned his second save of the season.

Hall finished the day 3-for-5 with two RBI and a run scored, while fellow senior LaRosa also finished 3-for-5 and added a run scored of his own. Jack Wallwork ended the day 2-for-4 with two RBI and DeBlasiis knocked in two as well, going 1-for-4.

The Golden Eagles wrap up their regular season with a non-conference game against the University of Rochester on Tuesday, May 1 and first pitch is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
