Baseball Reaches 20 Wins With Pair at Plattsburgh

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. - Behind 18 strikeouts from starting pitchers Robert Donnelly and Reston Pettit, the Oswego State baseball team took a pair of road contests at Plattsburgh on Saturday afternoon.  Donnelly (5-1) struck out 11 in pitching his fifth complete game and third shutout of the season during an 11-0, seven inning victory while Pettit (4-1) sat down seven Cardinals in a 7-2 nine inning win to begin the day.

In the opener, Oswego grabbed a quick 2-0 lead in the first inning when Ryan Enos doubled and scored on a Mike Dellicarri triple.  Center fielder John Barnes grounded out to plate Dellicarri and put the Lakers up early.  Plattsburgh tied it up at 2-2 with runs in the third and fourth innings.

The scored remained tied until the sixth when Myles Kutscher and Lukas Olsson led off with base hits and advanced to second and third on a Josh Hoagland groundout.  Rocco Leone delivered a two-RBI single to put Oswego back on top 4-2.  An Olsson RBI single in the seventh and a Dellicarri two-run blast in the eighth would ice the game for the Lakers.

Pettit won his fourth straight decision while only allowing three hits and the two runs in six and third innings of work.  Mike Abrams and Anthony Pacifico struck out four batters while allowing no runs over the final two and two-thirds of an inning in relief.

Game two featured another dominant performance for Donnelly, who allowed only five hits in the contest and lowers his season earned run average to a paltry 1.53.  The offense provided plenty of support with a monster third inning and eight runs, highlighted by a Brandon Nicholson three-run inside-the-park homerun.  A Myles Felton RBI-single and Zach Whelan two-RBI double would tack on three more in the top of the seventh to conclude the scoring.

Baseball pushes their record to 20-8 on the season and 10-3 in the SUNYAC while Plattsburgh falls to 7-20 and 1-13.  Both teams are back in action for the final game of the set tomorrow at noon back at the Chip Cummings Field in Plattsburgh.
