The SUNY Oneonta women's soccer team seems to be putting it together as the regular season winds down. Today, the Red Dragons rolled past Buffalo State, 5-0, to pick up its fourth straight victory including three consecutive shutouts.

Today's win for Oneonta (5-9-1/4-4 SUNYAC) put them into the mix for the final playoff spots for the SUNYAC tournament, which begins next weekend. The Red Dragons have 12 points and have moved into the fifth spot in the standings. The top six teams qualify for the tournament.

Oneonta got goals from five different players today. Juniors
Julie Steinhauer (East Syracuse/East Syracuse Minoa) and
Jess Downin (Franklin/Franklin Central), also added an assist to lead the overall attack.

Steinhauer opened the scoring in the 13
th minute of the match. The play was created when senior
Paige McDermott (Floral Park/Kellenberg Memorial) stole the ball from a Buffalo State (3-12-1/0-8 SUNYAC) defender before sending a ball into the box. Steinhauer collected the pass and fired a shot into the far left side of the goal.

Senior
Amanda Roney (Schoharie/Middleburgh) made it 2-0 less than 10 minutes later when she charged on a pass across the box by Downin that she fired into the right corner.

The Red Dragons took its two-goal lead and a 13-0 shot advantage into halftime.

Downin opened the scoring in the second half for Oneonta when she finished off pressure in front of the goal created by Steinhauer who had a shot in front that was stopped.

Senior
Emily Opalinski (East Amherst/Williamsville East) posted her second goal of the season when she put a direct kick from about 40 yards out over the keeper's head.

The final goal for the hosts came in the 87
th minute when sophomore
Dana Rende (Monroe/Monroe-Woodbury) converted on a rebound in front. Classmate
Christina Kornfeld (Mount Sinai/Miller Place) had the original shot with a header that was saved.

Oneonta hosts Fredonia tomorrow at Red Dragon Field beginning at 1pm. A win for the Red Dragons will lock up a playoff spot.
