PLATTSBURGH, N.Y.- Senior Cait Gagen (East Syracuse, N.Y. / East Syracuse-Minoa) scored both of her goals seven minutes apart to help aid Plattsburgh State women's soccer team to a 5-0 victory over SUNY New Paltz.
Plattsburgh State improved to 9-3-1 overall and 4-0-1 in the SUNYAC while New Paltz moved to 4-9-1 and 0-5-1 in the SUNYAC.
Freshman
Abbie Seamans (Bolton Landing, N.Y. / Bolton Central) scored her first goal of the season in the third minute of the game to put the Cardinals on the board first. Senior
Sarah Haight (East Meredith, N.Y. / Charlotte Valley) crossed the ball from the right side and Seamans put it in off her chest.
Freshman
Ernesta McIntosh (Lincoln, Vt. / Mt. Abraham) picked up her second goal of the season and the Cardinals second goal of the game in the seventh minute off a one timer shot from 18 yards out.
Gagen scored her first goal in the 20
th minute off a breakaway beating out a Hawks defender and deeking out the keeper to put the Cardinals up 3-0.
Gagen scored again seven minutes later faking out two Hawks defenders and put the ball into the left corner to make it 4-0 heading into halftime.
Haight scored five minutes into the second half off a breakaway down the left side and put it through the keepers five hole. McIntosh picked up the assist.
The remainder of the game was a play for possession, most of it being in the middle of the field.
Plattsburgh State out-shot New Paltz 24-8, 17-3 alone in the first half and had 14 shots on goal.
Madeline Saccocio (Schenectady, N.Y. / Schalmont) recorded five shots, three on goal; Haight had four shots, two on goal; Seamans had three shots, two on goal; Gagen had two shots, both on goal as did McIntosh.
Nichole Gibson (Arkport, N.Y. / Arkport) picked up her ninth win of the season making two saves in her 90:00 minutes in net.
Taylor Adams (Schenectady, N.Y. / Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons) recorded three saves in her 90:00 minutes between the pipes, splitting the shutout with Gibson.
The Cardinals are on the road Friday, Oct. 13, to play Buffalo State at 3 p.m.
