UNION, NJ— The College at Brockport baseball team saw their first game of the season called with one out in the bottom of the seventh after snow began to fall. The loss puts the Green and Gold at 0-1 on the year and the Drew Rangers move to 1-1 on the season.
The Golden Eagles fell behind in the first inning after a passed ball scored the Rangers' first run. Senior pitcher
Sam McCumiskey struck out the next batter to extinguish any momentum the opposition had. McCumiskey ran into more trouble in the bottom of the second after a pair of walks loaded the bases, but he was able to get out of the inning with minimal damage, only allowing a run.
Anthony Eaton got the third inning started with a single through the left side. He later advanced to third after
Austin Hall reached on a fielder's choice and then scored after a balk to bring the deficit to 2-1. McCumiskey settled into a groove in the third and fourth inning, using quality pitches to get through batters and get his offense back up to the plate. Brockport got runners in scoring position in the third and fourth inning, but were unable to push across the tying run.
The Green and Gold went to the bullpen to start the fifth inning, bringing in junior pitch
Jason Hellwig, who quickly made work of three batters, striking out his first two.
Luke Gilbert worked his way to scoring position after singling up the middle and stealing second, but that is as far as he was able to go. The Rangers scored two more runs in the top of the sixth and Brockport ran out of time as the snow began to fall.
The Golden Eagles get right back into it tomorrow, Feb. 18 at 12 p.m. when they face off against Kean University.
