Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Women's lacrosse cruises past New Paltz 17-7

Senior Taylor Casey scores six times

Senior Taylor Casey (Garden City South/Kellenberg Memorial) tallied six times today to lead the SUNY Oneonta women's lacrosse team past New Paltz 17-7.  The six goals for Casey matched her career high performance from earlier in the season giving her 31 on the season, which leads the team.

After spotting New Paltz (4-4, 0-2 SUNYAC) a pair of early goals, Oneonta (4-4-1, 1-1 SUNYAC) stormed back with five unanswered to grab control of the contest.  Senior Jaime Morris (West Nyack/Clarkstown South) led the attack with three goals while Casey and junior Lauren Bascelli (Williston Park/Herricks) each had one goal.

With the score sitting at 6-4 in favor of the Red Dragons just past the midway point of the first half, Oneonta added four straight goals to close the half and carry a 10-4 advantage into halftime.

Rachael Purtell scored the first goal of the second half to pull the Hawks to within five goals, but Oneonta put the game out of reach with three consecutive tallies including a pair by Casey.

In addition to Casey and Morris, junior Kelsey Cohen (Baldwin/Baldwin) contributed three goals in the game and freshman Sophia Calabrese (Bethlehem/Bethlehem Central) and sophomore Victoria Varone (Commack/Commack) each added two goals.

Sophomore Lexi Keen (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) grabbed her second win of the season playing 35 minutes in goal for the Red Dragons and collecting two saves.

Oneonta outshot the Hawks 43-15 and won 18 of 27 draws.

Oneonta will be home this Saturday to face Oswego beginning at 1pm.
